Mid-July is a little bit late to be looking for a new head football coach - practice begins in about three weeks - but that's where we find Clearwater Valley.
The Rams are sitting on the metaphorical bench, waiting to find out who will replace Kolby Krieger, who is stepping down after having surgery over the summer. Krieger will remain involved with the town's junior high football program but the head coaching position at the high school was posted in late June. Teams can begin practice on August 7.
Krieger is also the school's athletic director.
Clearwater Valley, located in Kooskia (about 26 miles north of Grangeville on the edge of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest in District II) finished 4-5 in 20016 and was in the running for one of the three playoff spots out of the uber-tough White Pine Conference late into the regular season. The Rams will open the 2017 season at the Kibbie Dome, on the campus of the University of Idaho, with a game against Wallace on Saturday, September 2.
